Stuart Construction - Week 18

Week 18 ~ March 18-24, 2013

Yea! They sprayed the texture this week, and man, is that humid and smelly.  It's awesome to see the texture up and see the walls taking shape and becoming less and less like a job site and more homey.

They started installing the floors in our bathroom as well as the kids bathroom, and they started the tile work this week too.  I'm not totally stoked about the vinyl floor in either bathroom, but it is what it is and we can upgrade the bathrooms in a few years.

This is the tile work in the master bathroom.  Love the tile - until I can have this bathroom again, this tile and floor will do me just fine!

This is the tile around the fireplace.  Love that it is a matte black that will match the counter tops in the kitchen.  Eventually we are going to add a mantle around this as well.

The other huge improvement and change this week was the installation of the hardwood floor.  It is site finished, so they install it and then as we get closer to finishing the house, they will come in and stain the floor.

Here's to progress continuing.  We are a bit behind, but as long as we still continue to see progress like this every week, all will be well in our household!

Happy Birthday B

My husband is such a wonderful friend, husband, father and provider.  He does so much for me and the kids, I am so happy that we have the life we have.  The house project has been so stressful for both of us, but substantially more for him than me.  He is constantly talking to our site supervisor, our builder, the city and county where we are building, everything; add on top of that he is living with his in-laws, and this man has it rough!

We got together with family last weekend to celebrate his birthday.  The kids and I made him a rainbow cake; it was a nice quiet day which was really needed after the last year that we have had.  Enjoy the pics (mostly, well, all of the yummy cake!!!)

Yep, I sure did put 33 candles on that cake!

Happy Birthday to my best friend!  Thank you so much for all that you do...here's to a more calm year ahead!

Stuart Construction - Week 17

Week 17 - March 11-17, 2013

More of the same this week, they finished up with the drywall and finally mudded (is that even grammatically correct?!) the whole house.  I was amazed to walk into the house and see how much softer it looked when the mud had been put on, or when it was mudded.  Seeing the harshness both in feel and color of the screws and the corner bead being covered makes it look more homey to me.  B thinks I'm crazy - I told him I'm a girl and it's becoming a home, still a nasty dirty construction site, but more of a home.  Sorry no pics of that, but once they texture, I will post some pics.

They also finished up on B's shop this week. I was amazed at how quickly they got the shop done.  I guess when you are just putting up wood sticks and then covering that with metal siding and you don't have to worry about the electrical, plumbing, floor, etc, if it takes you more than a week we should be concerned!  I think this will be a fantastic place for B to teach our children about cars and a place for them to bond.  I am so happy that we were able to make this shop happen, it was such a big part of us moving, so being able to afford it right off the bat is so important to me.  It is a HUGE shop, 30x50, so B and our children should never run out of room out there with their car projects.  I love the copula on the top, and we got to pick what we wanted; what could be better than an antique car weather vein on top of the car shop?!

Stuart Construction - Week 16

Week 16 ~ March 4-10, 2013

More huge visual changes happening at our place this week, both inside and out!

The guys finally started dry-walling this week!  It's crazy to see the walls becoming a solid wall instead of the framed wall you can see through.  It's also nice to see what the house will look like - the shape of the ceiling, the coves in the walls, things like that.  So here are shots from the beginning of the week through the end of the week.

They drywalled the garage, unexpected surprise for us!

Perhaps more exciting than them drywalling the house, they began construction on the shop!  The city likes to take their time in giving permits, so we had to wait 28 days before finally getting the permit to build the shop.

We got some much needed snow for the drought conditions, but we wish the snow had held off a little longer.  We have lucked out with the weather, and I really shouldn't complain, but since our lot is complete dirt, the second the snow melts, our lot becomes the biggest mud pit!  The delivery guy came by after the lot had defrosted for the day and proceeded to get his semi-truck stuck in the back yard!  Now we have some lovely ruts that the birds like to use as a bird bath.  Thank goodness they haven't done the final grading yet, otherwise the delivery guy would have gotten an earful from me!

Digging the holes for the poles

Don't we look oh so lovely in our work clothes measuring the depth of the holes?!

B in his man zone.  He is soooo excited about his shop.

Here's where they ended for the week.  We had another small snow storm come through that delayed them a bit. Not gonna lie, I was TOTALLY freaked when I saw just the sides put up.  It looked huge and way too close to the house.  B assures me that it is 120 feet away from the house, and that is not too close at all - not that I can do anything about it now!  I got a little more comfortable when I saw the roof trusses up, it doesn't look as huge as it first did.  So excited for B....this is one of the reasons we moved to more space.  We should NEVER run out of storage space!
